8th grade Historical Fiction Assignment

Students will be reading a book of their choosing on a time period in history. The first part of the assignment; having the book is due Feb. 9th.
Below is the assignment due March 15th.

Assignment:
1. You will choose a novel that is Historical Fiction. Historical Fiction is where the main characters are fictional, not real, but they are involved with real events from history. Your novel can be from any period of time in history and does not have to relate specifically to U.S History even though this is a U.S History class…
When you choose your novel to read, please choose a novel that is of interest to you, more than 100 pages and one that you have not read previously!
2. You must have your book by Wednesday, February 9th 2011.
-your book must be approved by the teacher
Your assignment must include the following:
a. A summary on what the book was about. Maximum 1 page
b. What event/time period did you learn about? Be specific: give dates, people that were involved, why did the event happen, what was the result, etc. Minimum 2 pages
c. Would you want to live during this time period/event? Why? Minimum ½ page
d. How has the United States been impacted because of this event/time period? Minimum 1 page
e. Visual Representations of Event/Time Period. Minimum of 4
f. A minimum of two other resources for information
*This assignment will require some extra research
3. You may present your assignment in a variety of ways:
traditional essay report
book
poster
slide show
other way approved by teacher
Guidelines
1. All written work preferably typed using 12point Times New Roman or Arial font double spaced format.
2. Visual Representations are color
3. Content and accuracy on events/time period will count
4. Grammar and Spelling count
5. I am looking for assignments that show effort and thought especially for parts b, c and d.

8th Grade Homework 1/14/2011

7th Grade

Your Contributions Project is due on Tuesday, Jan. 18th!! This assignment was given before the winter break, there should be no excuses on not turning it in or not completing it!

All Parents and Students 1/19/2011

Official Progress Reports went out to the students today in all classes. I have required that any student who has a C or less have their progress report signed and returned to me by Jan 19th. If I do not receive their progress report back, the student will receive an after school detention.
Please note: 7th grade does have challenge day, but they will be on campus and they also have Tuesday to return them.

8th Grade Students and Parents

8th Graders, the next few months are filled with many events preparing you for high school.
On Monday, January 10th Terra Nova is holding their orientation
On Tuesday, January 11th Oceana is holding their orientation
both Westmoor and Jefferson are holding their orientations this week as well.

We will be holding a Career Day event at IBL on the evening of March 10th at 6:30 in the MPR. All 8th graders in the district are welcome.

8th Grade Constitution Test Friday, 1/7/2011

Students, your test on the Constitution will be this Friday. You were given a study guide with all the information that will be covered. You can turn in the study guide for extra credit on the test.

8th Graders 1/3/2011

Students, this is a busy week with work. Please make sure you are putting in the effort needed to earn good grades on your assignments.
Your amendment project is due tomorrow 1/4/11, your Constitution questions are due Friday, 1/7/2011 and you have a test on Friday on the Constitution.
As usual, you can turn in your study guide for extra credit towards the test.
There are about 150 points at stake this week, please put in effort!!!
