All Parents and Students

I will not be in school from March 27th-April 1st. I will be chaperoning the 7th grade Catalina Trip with Mr. Westbrook and Ms. Lakata.
My sub for the week is Mr. Griffiths; he has subbed in my class before and is very familiar with IBL school procedures.
7th grade students will be working on Chapter 21 for Japan.
8th grade students will continue to work on Chapter 19. They will be given suplimental materials in class and will have a project assignment due on Monday, April 4th.
I will post all work for the week on Sunday evening. Students will have homework throughout the week!

When you have finished, you will use your information to create a journal pretending as if you were a Japanese citizen during the 10th century. Directions are attached to this page.

Japan Culture


Directions:
Pretend you are a nobleman or woman living in Heian-kyo during the 10th century. You are keeping a diary of your impressions of daily life during that time. Use your reading notes from Chapter 21 to create a diary entry that describes one day in your life while visiting the emperor’s court.

Your diary should include the following:
The date
Be written in the first person: “I”, “me”, “we”, and “us”
Have information about at least 6 aspects of your life. These might include a description of the capital city, your house, the leaders of government, your rank, what is considered beautiful or fashionable, what is considered bad manners, games you enjoy, art and literature of the day or your attitude towards the poor.
Add creative touches to make your diary entry personal.
Each of your entries should be ½ page to 1 full page in length
Free of grammatical errors

Grading
You will be graded on the following:
Did you write in first person? (5 points)
Did you use 6 aspects of life? (6 points)
Do each of your entries have creative aspects that properly represent the topics? (24 points)
Are each of your entries the proper length?(5 points)
Did you proofread for errors? (5 points)
Total Points: 45 points

7th Grade Notebooks

It is the start of the new trimester; all students need a notebook for social studies that they can answer the daily warm-up in and take notes in. We discussed this in class today. You know if you need a new one or not!

8th Grade Homework due Friday, March 11th

We have started our chapter on Reform movements during the 1800's, below is the assignment that you will be working on for the chapter. 1st period, we finished the Second Great Awakening as a class. 5th period, we will finish the Second Great Awakening Tomorrow!

Directions: You will read Ch-18, for each section/reform movement you will do the following:

1. Write the Name of the reform movement
2. Create an appropriate slogan for the reform movement
3. Make a symbol that represents the reform movement
4. Write the goal of the movement
