The Amendment Project
In order to help you and your classmates learn about the Amendments to the Constitution, you will do the following:
You will be assigned to do one or part of an Amendment.
You will need to read about your amendment; try to understand what it says and why the people of this country felt a need to add it to our Constitution.
You will be given a 12x18 piece of construction paper that you will fold in half to create a mini-protest sign.
o Part I: The Project
On side A you will design and create a collage that represents the meaning of your Amendment. You could use pictures and words from magazines or the internet or even your own drawings.
On the top half of side B you will 1) write or paste a copy of the Amendment as it appears in the Constitution 2) On the bottom half, you will write your own interpretation of what the Amendment really means in “everyday” language.
You will be given a Popsicle stick to finish off your “protest” sign on the last in-class workday given.
o Part II: The Presentation
You will prepare a short presentation for the class; it will be no more than 4 minutes in length. It will be your job to share the meaning of your Amendment and what was the reason behind this issue becoming an amendment. You will also make a point of how did or does this Amendment benefit us, the American people.
Please note that all writing must be done in ink or marker
Please include your name, date, and class period in the bottom corner of side A.
