The Civil War
Biography Project
1. You will be doing your project on: ______________________________________.
2. You will need to research and complete this assignment at home. There will be no class time given. It will be your job to gather information on your assigned person or battle. I recommend you use the internet to aid your search, but don’t forget encyclopedias, Who’s Who in the Civil War (found in local libraries – must be used inside the library), and other related readings (check the index of the book). If you are having difficulty in gathering information, please talk to the librarians – they know right where to look.
3. You will need poster board.
4. Your project must include the following:
A. A timeline for your assigned battle will start with the beginning of the battle and go until the end of the battle. You will have 7-10 entries. This will earn you up to 15 points.
B. You will write a report on the battle. You will include the main players on both sides, their success or failure up to that point, the strategies employed, the impact of the battle and the results. All of which could earn you up to 50 points.
C. Include two humorous or interesting incidents surrounding your assigned battle. This will earn you up to 5 points.
D. A drawing or photocopy of your assigned battle. Relevance of the pictures and its display can earn you up to 5 points.
E. A completed bibliography with at least three sources attached to the back of the poster board. Look in the back of your Literature book to find the proper way to write your sources. This will earn you up to 5 points.
F. You will need to put a full heading in one of the corners.
5. All writing must be typed or written in ink; however, pictures may be drawn in pencil.
6. Creativity, neatness, spelling, grammar, and the manner in which you display your project all play a part in your grade. Additional drawings, models, and/or maps will be considered extra credit. More than 5 spelling or grammar errors will drop you grade by 3%.
